Jun Iwasaki

Concertmaster

At this moment …

Jun is exploring the Portland Farmers Market. “There is so much to choose from, it can be a little overwhelming sometimes. Luckily it’s close to the concert hall, so I can drop in for a quick visit when I’m at a rehearsal.”

In the CD player …

Jun is listening to Stéphane Grappelli in the car. “He’s one of my favorite violinists of all time. I really like improvisation and his sound is so unique. I get inspired when I hear him play.”

On the nightstand …

Jun has copies of Bon Appetite and Cook’s Illustrated. “I like to learn new recipes. Sometimes I’ll see a menu item at a restaurant and try to figure out how to cook it myself at home.”

On the music stand …

Jun has Beethoven’s Triple Concerto and Dvořák Romance, in addition to other upcoming Symphony concert pieces. “I’m constantly going through orchestra parts for bowings and keeping the week’s repertoire in order.”

In the kitchen …

This is where Jun would be if he didn’t play the violin. “I love to cook. It’s one of my favorite things to do and I enjoy every second of it.”

Before you left …

Jun would show you the great view from his condominium on the South Waterfront. “There’s a great view of the river, downtown, and, on a clear day, St. Helens. You can also see the tram making its trip up and down the hill.”
