DONOR APPRECIATION CONCERT CONDUCTED BY JAMES DePREIST
____________________________________________________________________________________
Portland, Ore. ... Sixteen-year-old violinist Sydnie Yao Reed, a junior at South Eugene High School awarded with an appearance with the Oregon Symphony after winning the 2001 Corbett Competition, will perform in the Evelyn Nagel Donor Appreciation Concert, conducted by Music Director James DePreist Monday, June 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. DePreist will perform popular works by Barber, Persichetti and more, and Symphony Apprentice Conductor Jonathan Pasternack will conduct Sibelius' Violin Concerto, which Reed performed in the Mrs. Henry L. Corbett, Sr. Young Artists Competition. This annual tribute to Symphony supporters is made possible by a grant from the Meyer Memorial Trust in honor of Nagel, who was the Symphony's director of development from 1973 until her death in 1993.
DePreist will conduct a varied program including William Schuman's "New England Triptych," Arvo Pärt's "Fratres," Barber's Adagio for Strings and Persichetti's Symphony No. 4, scheduled to be recorded by DePreist and the orchestra June 11. Pasternack will conduct Sibelius' Violin Concerto in D Minor featuring Reed during the first half of the program.
Reed's multiple awards include First Place in the violin division of the Oregon Music Educators Association's 2002 and 2001 State Solo Competitions and Winner of the Oregon Division at the Music Teacher's National Association High School Division (1999). Reed also has made solo appearances with local orchestras, including the Eugene Symphony (2001) and the Oregon Sinfonietta (2001). According to Willamette Week, Reed's performances are marked with "elegant verve."
This concert is open to donors by invitation only.
